Everyone would know Vincent Van Gogh. He was a Dutch artist who was famous for his paintings. If you take a look at his paintings, there are many paintbrushes prints on there. One day, he drew a self-portrait of himself and showed to his friend, who was also an artist. He said that it didn't look like Gogh. Then, Gogh cut parts of his ear to match the painting. That is also a famous story from him. There are well known paintings such as Van Gogh's Chair, The Starry Night (etc.). When he left the world, his paintings got popular and famous.
Another artist would be: Pablo Picasso. He was a Spanish artist who mainly worked on collage and sculptures. One of his paintings would be Still Life with a Bottle of Rum.
One more "long time ago artist" would be Claude Monet. He was a French artist who used impressionism in his artworks. He was a painter and one of his famous paintings would be Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies.
Then, there are artists from modern days. Keith Haring was an American artist who used pop art. He mainly had political views that revealed in his artworks. In the 20th century, his art became well known over the years.
Robert Indiana is another prominent artist present today. He creates pop art, too. You might've seen the Love sculpture. The letters are all cramped into one, forming two rows. There is also Hope, which is in the same style as Love. Indiana donated Hope for Barack Obama's campaign.
Lastly, Jeff Koons is well known today as well as the other artists. He is famous for his sculptures and more. His artworks are mainly used steel to form balloon animals with it. His famous works are Puppy, Sacred Heart, and more.
